Part of the wider Castilla y Leon area, the Ribera del Duero region surrounds the Duero river as it runs South-West to Portugal. This region is well known for its high-quality Temperanillo-based reds, where oak-aging is ubiquitous, whether it be for traditional or modern styles.
Known locally as Tinto Fino, here tempranillo produces deeply coloured reds full of berry aromas and firm tannins. Complex layers of limestone marl, and chalk, under a topsoil of silt and clay add real character to Ribera del Duero wines. Higher altitude vineyards in the side valleys add acidity and freshness to wines often built to last.
