Off the coast of West Africa, Madeira makes an ancient wine style which has never been more relevant, matching wonderfully to diverse cuisines, but also acting as a palate-awakening aperitif. The main vitis vinifera variety is Tinta Negra, with Sercial, Verdelho, Boal and Malvasia (and a teeny bit of Terrantez and Bastardo) quite rare, given their reputations.
In the 20 years since taking over his family's company, Ricardo Diogo has put this small producer at the heart of Madeira's present and future, by repecting the best of the past.
