Cantariña, Vinos de Familia, is a fairly young company, but the family and their vineyards go back 3 generations. The grapes used to be sold to a larger company, to be pooled with other parcels. The Ysart Alvarez de Toledo Family thought this to be a waste of grapes with great quality potential, from classic terroir. Their 13 Ha of vineyards are located in the town of Villafranca del Bierzo, in the heart of the region, laying on the Camino de Santiago.
The family decided to invest in their own winery in order to produce their own wines that are true to the grape varieties and terroir, while respecting their environment and traditions. The name, and cricket logo, are a reflection of this. Their philosophy is to make wines with a hands-off approach, vinifying small parcels from individual vineyards, using only wild fermentions, and as little manipulation in the winery as possible, incuding no fining or filtration.
