Brothers João and Paulo first bought their estate in 1998. They invested years in developing a proportion of their land for vineyards and made their first wines back in 2003. At this time, we wrote that they had followed their star.
Many years later their star continues to rise, and as with many good things it is even more of a family affair, now incorporating members of the next generation.
The Soares family have invested extraordinary energy, imagination, and creativity into Malhadinha Nova. The estate now embeds sustainable, organic, biodymanic, and regenerative practices across all agricultural and livestock activities. This holistic approach imbues the wines with a true terroir expression and energy, re-enforcing Malhadinha’s status as one of Portugal’s top wine estates.
It also boasts a luxury country house hotel with a Michelin Green Star restaurant, award-winning horse stud farm, and is home to some of the region's finest black pigs and DOP Alentejano cattle.
