Quinta de Macedos
Paul Reynolds, Rio Torto, Portugal
Winemaker Paul and Raymond Reynolds
Soil Type Schist
Main Varieties Mostly old mixed vineyards
Paul Reynolds bought this 6 hectare estate in 1999, and nutured the ancient vineyard (planted between 1920 and 1945) back to production along very low intervention principles, whilst restoring the winemaking facility (including the small treading troughs).
There are 16 different varieties planted throughout the property, which is tortuously steep in places. We can happily also report that the road to get to the Quinta is not quite as trecharous as it once was, and the visitor can now arrive in relative calm. An artisan and authentic expression of the Torto Valley in very small quantities.
