Utiel-Requena has the largest area under vine in the greater Valencia region, on Spain's east coast. The native Bobal variety dominates the area, and can be found blended with the likes of garnacha, Temperanillo and even Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense, rich wines, with dark fruit and berry flavours are the norm, with oak aging often an integral feature. Unfortunately, periods of grubbing-up old vines has occured in recent times, with producers favouring new clones and higher-yielding varieties.

However, in the town of Requena, Alberto Pardo has kept a portion of the old, family vineyards alive. Following biodynamic principles, using only the best quality grapes from his small plots of low-yielding bush vines.
